Chief Academic Officer
The Chief Academic Officer is responsible for assisting the Superintendent with leadership and supervision in developing, achieving and enhancing educational programs and related services. This position supervises and manages all academic service areas which include Instructional Improvement Officers, curriculum and instruction, professional development, exceptional and academically gifted, co-curricular activities, and extracurricular activities, and support services. Administers school improvement efforts and addresses academic concerns of teachers, parents, administrators, students, staff, and the community. Employee also works on various special projects as assigned by the Superintendent. Reports to the Superintendent. Position is equivalent to an Associate Superintendent post.

Manager - Media Relations
Under limited supervision, performs responsible professional work in the District Relations Department. Work involves developing a comprehensive district-wide media relations strategy and plan, serving as the official spokesperson and information, education and referral source for local, state and national media; serving as an information resource for the general public. Employee is also responsible for assisting with crisis/emergency communications; and supervising media relations staff in gathering and distributing “Good News” information to media and throughout the district. Employee also directs and supervises staff in developing online content for all district Web sites. Employee must juggle multiple tasks and issues in a fast-paced environment. Reports to the Executive Director of District Relations.

Coordinator – Foreign Languages
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of foreign language programs in the County school system while providing support to school administrators, faculty, and staff. Employee is responsible for interpreting changes to the North Carolina Curriculum regarding foreign languages, informing teachers and principals of the implications of those changes, and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals. Employee also provides professional development opportunities for staff and assists teachers in developing goals for individual programs. Employee also assists teachers with textbook and other materials selection and provides teachers various tools and materials to aid instruction. Reports to Executive Director of Organizational Development.

Manager - Standards and Design
Guilford County Schools’ Facilities Planning and Construction Department is looking for a
qualified individual with at least five years of professional experience to join its team to
develop and maintain consistent, district-wide standards and specifications for facilities.
Registered architect or professional engineer preferred. Responsibilities include active
participation with plan reviews, discipline-specific peer reviews, and all other reviews
responding in a timely manner to avoid impacting project schedules. The individual in this
position will play an important role in successfully implementing the District’s 2008 School
Bond program. The bond program includes over $457 million for 27 projects.
Successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction
techniques and materials, considerable knowledge of educational facility construction
standards and general building codes, and a working knowledge of computer software to
include MicroSoft Word, Excel, Project Manager, and AutoCAD.
Excellent time and project management skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced
environment while working with multiple assignments is essential for this contract position.
BA in Architecture or a related field from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of
experience in school construction is preferred. Registered architect or professional
engineer preferred.

Diagnostician/Program Facilitator
- Advanced Learner Department
Under general or occasional supervision, performs a variety of tasks to
assure appropriate services for Advanced Learners in Guilford County
Schools. This position serves as a link to administrators, principals, staff,
and Advanced Learner Curriculum Specialists to monitor a rigorous,
differentiated curriculum. The employee plans, executes and oversees the
evaluation services needed to find students eligible for the Advanced
Learner and nurture initiatives programs. Through contact with the schools,
the employee communicates information to administration, staff members,
and parents. The employee also provides staff development to enhance
services to meet the unique needs of Advanced Learners. Work involves
planning and managing evaluation services, records, resources, and staff
development, in order to facilitate a comprehensive program of service to
students referred for placement in the Advanced Learner Program. Employee is also responsible for working with others to accomplish the goals and objectives of the District’s Plan for Advanced Learners and serves as a communication link to school personnel, parents, and community. Work requires the use of technological skills necessary to maintain and to analyze a current and comprehensive database of the status of all eligible and potential Advanced Learners to monitor academic growth, provide pertinent information, and assess progress toward increasing minority representation. Reports to the Coordinator for Advanced Learners.

Curriculum Specialist for ELA
Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of district initiatives, programs, and curriculum as aligned with North Carolina Standard Course Study. Employee is responsible for interpreting changes to the North Carolina Curriculum, informing teachers and principals of the implications of those changes, and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals. Employee coaches teachers in developing strategies and techniques for assessing and increasing student achievement. Employee also assists teachers with textbooks and other materials selection and provides teachers with various tools and resources to aid instruction. Employee assists administrators with evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives implementation and develops strategies for instruction.

Assistant Principal
Guilford County Schools is in search of instructional and administrative leaders who are committed to putting children first. Demonstrated leadership and commitment to excellence is required. Educators who have a strong sense of responsibility for interpreting the district’s curriculum and for planning and implementing instructional strategies with teachers resulting in high levels of achievements for all students will be demanded for this position. In creating outstanding urban schools, a background in data analysis; building positive school climates; decision making and developing relationships with parents and communities is considered priority. The ability to work effectively to provide a cohesive, interdependent and safe learning environment is essential. Candidates must be able to provide evidence of effective previous experience in orchestrating, developing and encouraging superior work and cooperation among parents, staff, students and the various communities.
Salary will be determined based on the state salary schedule plus an attractive local supplement. A North Carolina Principal License is required. Except for interim appointments, initial contract will be offered.

Occupational and Physical Therapists
Guilford County Schools Exceptional Children’s Program is actively seeking Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physical Therapists (PTs) to fill several vacancies in our district Applicants must have graduated from a four-year accredited program of occupational therapy or physical therapy and be licensed as an OT or PT by the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy or the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy. Positions are 10 month.

Educational Interpreters: Guilford County Schools Exceptional Children’s Program is currently hiring educational interpreters for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year and 2007-08. The interpreter must have competence in providing transliterating/interpreting services in the classroom or at school related activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Educational Interpreter Level I must have high school diploma. No prior experience required. A minimum score of Level 3 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment or a passing score on a state level interpreting evaluation. Must annually complete 15 hours of training.
Qualifications for Educational Interpreter II includes having an AA degree in Educational Interpreting from an accredited program and a minimum of two years experience in an educational setting or licensure from Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., National Association for the Deaf or the Cued Speech Transliterator Training, Evaluation and Certification Unit and two years of experience in an educational setting. Must annually complete 15 hours of training related to interpreting that has been approved by the local education agency.
