The Guilford County Board of Education met in a special called meeting for the purposes of addressing student matters on Thursday, June 16, 2005, at 712 North Eugene Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. The following Board members were present : Kris Cooke, Alan Duncan, Darlene Garrett, Dot Kearns, Susan Mendenhall, Amos Quick (arrived at 6:08 p.m.), Nancy Routh, and Marti Sykes. Board members Walter Childs, Deena Hayes and Anita Sharpe were absent. Also present was Attorney Robin Britt. Superintendent Grier was absent.
Call to Order
Chairman Duncan called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.
Approval of the Agenda
Chairman Duncan asked Board members to review the meeting agenda and called for a motion to approve or revise it. Motion was made by Kris Cooke, seconded by Susan Mendenhall, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion passed upon unanimous voice vote.
Closed Session
At 6:04 p.m., motion was made by Marti Sykes, seconded by Dot Kearns, to move to closed session to preserve the attorney client privilege and to discuss student matters protected by N.C.G.S. 115C-402 and FERPA, 20 U.S.C. 1232g. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The Board returned to open session at 9:08 p.m.
Adjournment
With no further business, at 9:09 p.m., motion was made by Susan Mendenhall, seconded by Marti Sykes, to adjourn the meeting; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
