Long known for going above and beyond the call of duty, Bobby Sarteh, an ESOL liaison at Mendenhall Middle School, was selected as Guilford County Schools’ Employee of the Month for December 2006.

A refugee himself, Bobby knows what it’s like to start over in a new country. Bobby’s commitment and dedication to helping make the move for students as smooth as possible has caught the eye of students and colleagues alike. Those who nominated Sarteh described him as an employee who:

• Tutors students after school
• Always goes out of his way to help students, whether that involves taking them to medical appointments, making sure they have snacks and providing clothes for them and their families
• Has learned Spanish and Vietnamese in order to provide multiple lines of communication
• Can be counted on anytime; day or evening
• Is a caring person who goes beyond the parameters outlined in his job description
• Somehow finds the time to coach the school soccer teams
• Is an inspiration as a professional and as a human being

As Guilford County Schools’ Employee of the Month, Bobby received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, who has partnered with GCS to execute the employee recognition program. Bobby’s photo will hang on a plaque at the district’s three central offices, at Mendenhall Middle School and at Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue.
