Change Order to Contract for Construction at Southern Guilford Middle School

New Atlantic Contracting, Inc. has submitted three separate requests for change orders to cover the cost of trench rock, mass rock and unsuitable soils that have been encountered on the site.
Although none of these requests are in an amount greater than $100,000, the sum total of the three is over $100,000.
Trench Rock Blasting, Excavation & Removal $49,059
Mass Rock Blasting, Excavation & Removal $97,394
Unsuitable Soils @ Drake Rd. $57,195
Staff anticipated that unsuitable soils and rock would be encountered during construction. The funds for this change are currently in the budget under project contingency.
RECOMMENDATION: In an effort to move through this process expeditiously and to pay the contractor in a timely manner for this work, the administration recommends board approval in the amount of $203,648 for the remediation of unsuitable soils and rock that have been encountered and submitted to date by New Atlantic Contracting, Inc.
