Recognition of GCS as a Global Communications School District

Learning a second language benefits students both personally and academically, and many GCS students experience this first-hand through a variety of programs. Now, the Global Communicators Program, which is a part of Governor Easley’s North Carolina in the World initiative, and the North Carolina State Board of Education is recognizing GCS as a Global Communicators School District for its outstanding K-12 world-language program.

GCS is home to the first full-language Spanish immersion program in the state at Jones Elementary. The Spanish language immersion K-12 pipeline expands to include Kirkman Park Elementary and Aycock Middle. Furthermore, GCS provides world language instruction in selected elementary schools and comprehensive programs in middle and high schools. Al Rubio, Director of the Global Communicators Program, will present a plaque of recognition to GCS.
