National Merit Scholarship Recipients

The Board of Education will recognize two GCS seniors as recipients of the National Merit Scholarship on May 24, 2007. Larsen Jones from Grimsley High and Angela Pratt from The Early College at Guilford are among the 2,500 distinguished scholarship winners nationwide.

The National Merit Scholarship, worth $2,500, is based on standardized test scores, academic records, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay describing interests and goals and a recommendation written by a high school official.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) finances most of the single-payment National Merit $2,500 Scholarships with its own funds. Companies and businesses that support sponsored awards through NMSC help underwrite these scholarships with grants they provide in lieu of administrative fees.
