Bond Referendum Resolution

On December 4, 2007, the Board approved a prioritized list of projects proposed for the May 2008 bond referendum. Per North Carolina General Statutes, the board of education must adopt a resolution stating the need for capital projects and transmit the resolution to the board of county commissioners. The attached document is a draft of such a resolution requesting that Guilford County Board of Commissioners place a school construction bond referendum in the amount of $457,320,000 (the approved amount of $457,315,199 rounded to the nearest $5,000 at the recommendation/request of Guilford County Finance staff) on the May 2008 election ballot for approval by the voters of Guilford County. We are requesting your approval of the attached resolution and authorization to forward the resolution to the county commissioners. Per Guilford County Finance Director Brenda Fox, the Board of County Commissioners will consider a resolution authorizing county staff to make application to the Local Government Commission for approval of bonds in an amount not to exceed $457,320,000 for school facilities at their meeting scheduled for February 7, 2008.
