To many, Kristi Bryson is the face of Rankin Elementary. She works diligently behind the scenes as the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) president and devotes endless time and energy providing opportunities for children and parents to learn through the organization. She has won two Community Foundation Spice Grants for the school during her tenure, one of which provides a Saturday morning program that promotes literacy. Kristi organized teachers to volunteer in leading reading/writing activities with parents and their children for the program. At the end of the program, students receive books for their personal home libraries.
Her work was on display in February when Kristi organized a week of “Take Your Family to School” in honor of National PTA month. She included the entire family with family academic game night, sessions for parents on the keys to school success and shadowing of students at school to allow parents to observer their children at school. Principal Geraldine Cox says Kristi is instrumental in the success of Rankin: “Kristi has increased membership and funds for the PTA at Rankin. She is a constant supporter of our school and its goal of educating children.”
In addition, she organized a book fair for the school where every child had an opportunity to purchase a book by sponsor if they were not able to purchase with their own money. She also organized a health fair to screen children and their parents as a preventive care measure.
Because of her constant support of the faculty and students at Rankin Elementary, Kristi is the March Guilford County Schools (GCS) Volunteer of the Month.
As the GCS Volunteer of the Month, Kristi will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Board of Education and Superintendent Terry Grier. She will also receive a $25 gift card from American Express. Kristi’s photo will hang on a plaque at her school during the month of March. Remember to watch for the Volunteer of the Month on GCSTV 2.
