Bids were received on July 1, 2008, for equipment needed for the Smith High Gymnasium air conditioning project. Bids were received on July 2, 2008, for the installation of this equipment. Attached are the tabulations of the two bids received for each component of the project.
Carrier Southeast of Greensboro, NC, submitted the lowest bid of $146,000 for the equipment, but qualified their bid with an equipment order lead time of 11-12 weeks. Trane of Greensboro, NC, submitted a bid of $149,073, with a four week lead time. The project completion date is scheduled for approximately seven weeks.
Kay Heating and Air Conditioning of Greensboro, NC, submitted the lowest responsive, responsible bid of $440,000 for the installation. The MWBE participation for this project is 1.87%.
MBE $9,000 Percent- 1.53%
WBE $2,000 Percent- .34%
Total MWBE $11,000 Percent- 1.87%
The cumulative MWBE participation with the 2000 and 2003 bonds:
- If MWBE participation is calculated based on the amount of construction/architect contracts awarded to date for the two referendums, the MWBE participation = 17.05%.
- If minority participation is calculated based on the amount of construction/architect contracts awarded to date for the two referendums, the minority participation = 6.96%.
RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of a contract with Trane for purchase of the equipment in the amount of $149,073 and a contract with Kay Heating and Air Conditioning for the installation of the equipment in the amount of $440,000 for the Smith High School Gymnasium air conditioning project at a total cost of $589,073.
