When news happens at one of Guilford County Schools’ (GCS’) 120 sites, the first phone call goes to Haley Miller in the District Relations department. She played an integral role in keeping the public informed during and after the fire at Eastern High, springing into action and easing fears with her kind, personable and sensible attitude. No matter what time her expertise is needed, Haley is available and willing, whether it’s communication about inclement weather at 4 a.m. or providing information about Board of Education meetings at 11 p.m.
Although she started with GCS while still a full-time student at Appalachian State University, Haley is a seasoned and true professional. Nothing pleases her more than sharing heartwarming tales of the great things happening across the district, and she’s been a key part of garnering national attention from The New York Times, Newsweek and National Public Radio.
In her department, Haley is steady as a rock and shows her passion for writing. “Haley is the first to provide encouragement and support,” Media Relations Manager Chad Campbell said. “She is a model employee who loves to laugh. There is no question that she has a bright future ahead of her, and the district is fortunate to have her.”
As Employee of the Month, Haley received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has partnered with GCS to support the employee recognition program. Her photo will hang at the district’s central offices, as well as at Sam’s Club.
