Board Member Honored with Order of the Long Leaf Pine

Dot Kearns, at large member of the Guilford County Board of Education, received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on Saturday, North Carolina’s highest civilian honor. In front of a crowd of approximately 400, Attorney Tom Terrell presented the award to Dot at the annual Democratic Unity Dinner.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award.

A long-time board member, Dot has a distinguished record of service in the community. She has received many prestigious awards, including High Point Citizen of the Year. In July, she received the 2008 Jack and Marsha Slane Child Advocate of the Year from the United Way of Greater High Point’s Children’s Initiatives Committee.
