RE:

K-12 Literacy

An overview of our K-12 reading programs will be framed around three important components:

  • Core Instruction
  • Diagnostic Tools
  • Reading Intervention

Support for implementation through online resources, provided on the Guilford Education Management System (GEMS), and professional development are also discussed

Our student achievement scores in reading for grades 3-8 remain stable over time (prior to re-norming the 2008 EOG). Strategies to improve achievement include:

  • Develop a common understanding and implementation of a balanced reading model.
  • Use diagnostic tools to plan for instruction and monitor learning.
  • Improve core instruction and implement research-based intervention strategies and programs.

Overall strengths and next steps are detailed on the attached PreK-12 Reading Support from Curriculum and Instruction document.
