RE:

GCS Volunteer of the Month for May 2009

Almost daily, the staff at Oak View Elementary can count on a little extra help. That’s because for four hours every day, Betty McCarn lends a helping hand to assist with time-consuming clerical duties and also listens to students read.

“She is the kindest, most dedicated volunteer,” said Oak View Principal Heather Bare. “She is faithful to come every day and will do anything asked. There’s no doubt about it - our students and staff just love Mrs. McCarn!”

An American Express representative and district officials surprised McCarn with Volunteer of the Month honors in a brief ceremony at the school. As Volunteer of the Month, McCarn received a gift bag and $25 gift card from American Express, which has generously partnered with Guilford County Schools (GCS) to support the volunteer recognition program. Her photo will hang at Oak View as well as the district’s central offices.
