Winter/Spring Sports State Champions

At the June 9 board meeting, we will recognize team and individual state champions for both winter and spring sports. During this recognition, Leigh Hebbard, director of athletics and driver’s education, will make brief statements about each team and individual state champion, comments about seniors among the group, and present certificates.

During the winter season, the Dudley High women’s basketball team and the Southwest Guilford High men’s indoor track team won state championships. Cordell Livingston, a member of the Southwest Guilford indoor track team earned an individual state title for the 55 m hurdles and the triple jump. Kaneisha Williams, Dudley High earned top honors by winning the indoor track championship in the 500 m dash. Jacob Creed, Ragsdale High, won the 3A championship at 135 lbs in wrestling, earning his 4th state championship title. Brandon Hodges, also of Ragsdale High, won the 3A wrestling title at 130 lbs. Timdarius Thurston, TW Andrews, won the 3A state wrestling title at 112 lbs.

During the spring season there were no teams earning state championships, but several individuals earned state titles. Desmeion Kennedy, High Point Central, took home the state title in the triple jump at the 4A track & field state meet. Cordell Livingston, Southwest Guilford High, earned state championship titles in the 3A division for both the 110 and 300 m hurdles. Jazueline Daniels, Page High, earned top honors in track with a state title in the triple jump. Breanna Alston, Southeast Guilford High won the state title in the 400 m dash. The Southeast Guilford High 4 x 200 relay team, comprised of John Martin, Chris Boyd, Alex Harrison, and C.J. Poteat won the state championship in their event. Dudley High’s Avery Griffin earned state titles in track & field by placing first in both the long jump and triple jump. Tyler Brockington of Dudley took first place and the state championship in the 300 m hurdles. Two of Dudley’s women’s relay teams earned state championship titles. The 4 x 200 m relay comprised of Janise Robinson, Natalie Nelson, Tyler Brockington, and Kaneisha Williams earned a title as well as the 4 x 400 relay team of Shaquilla Gibson, Tyler Brockington, Natalie Nelson and Kaneisha Williams.
