I. Call to Order
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will call the meeting to order.

II. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will call on a member of the board to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

III. Recognition
GCS Employee of the Month for August 2009
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, the board will recognize Mayra Hayes, director of the English as a Second Language (ESL) department as the August 2009 Employee of the Month.  If you have any questions regarding this item, please contact Nora Carr, chief of staff, at 370-8106, prior to the meeting.

IV. Public Comments
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will call on members of the public who have requested an opportunity to address the board.

V. Approval of Agenda
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will ask board members to review the meeting agenda and will call for a motion to approve or revise it. If you have questions regarding this item, please contact Chairman Duncan at 378-5315, prior to the meeting.

VI. Consent Agenda             
A. Meeting Minutes
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, the minutes of the June 9 and June 25 regular meetings will be presented for approval. If you have questions or suggested revisions, please contact Loraine Little at 370-8992, prior to the meeting. 

B. Personnel Reports
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, the consent agenda includes personnel actions as noted in the monthly personnel action report requiring board approval. Should there be any additional personnel action requiring board approval, you will receive notification prior to the meeting. VII. Staff Reports
A. Public Hearing and Approval for the Naming of the Special Education Center West
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will call on members representing each name, who will be granted 10 minutes, to discuss the proposed name for the Special Education Center West. Following the public hearing, the board will have the opportunity to select a final name. B. Update on Oak Ridge Elementary School
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Leo Bobadilla, chief operations officer, will present to the board an update on Oak Ridge Elementary. If you have questions regarding this item, please contact Mr. Bobadilla at 370-3482, prior to the meeting.    

C. Update on Advanced Placement (AP)
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Dr. Barbara Zwadyk, chief curriculum and organizational development officer, will present to the board an update on advanced placement. If you have questions regarding this item, please contact Dr. Zwadyk at 335-3293, prior to the meeting.

D. Update on Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) /ABCs
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Dr. Gongshu Zhang, chief accountability and research officer, will present to the board an update on AYP/ABC results. If you have questions, regarding this item, please contact Dr. Zhang at 370-8323, prior to the meeting.

E. Continued 2009-10 Budget Discussion
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Sharon Ozment, chief financial officer, will lead the board in a continued budget discussion. If you have questions regarding this item, please contact Ms. Ozment at 370-8343, prior to the meeting.

VIII. Board Discussion
Governance Review Committee Update – Report on Policy JI, Student Participation in Interscholastic Athletics
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will call on board member Nancy Routh, convenor of the Governance Review Committee, to present to the board a report on policy JI, Student Participation in Interscholastic Athletics. IX. Reports from the Superintendent, if needed
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Superintendent Green will share information about the district, should there be any to be reported.

At the meeting of August 11, 2009, Chairman Duncan will share reports of the board’s activities, should there be any to be reported.

XI. Board Comments 
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, board members will each be allowed two minutes to make remarks, as they deem appropriate.

XII. Closed Session
At the meeting of August 11, 2009, the board will address business requiring a closed session.
