Guilford County Schools' Employee of the Month
The Board recognized Julius Ellison, custodian at Northeast Guilford High School , as Guilford County Schools' Employee of the Month for October.
Operation H.O.P.E.
The Board recognized the districts efforts in raising more than $167,888 for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The funds were raised by schools, central office facilities and personal contributions by members of the Board.

Staff Reports
Early and Middle College Update
Dr. Peggy Thompson, chief academic officer and Mr. Barry Williams, instructional improvement officer, provided the Board an update on the district's early and middle colleges. Principals from these colleges discussed their school's focus, academic progress and concerns.
Achievement Gap Update
Dr. Gongshu Zhang, executive accountability and research officer and Dr. Peggy Thompson, chief academic officer, provided the Board an update regarding the district's achievement gap.
Instructional Management System - Scantron Update
Dr. Peggy Thompson, chief academic officer and Valerie Collins, chief curriculum and organizational development officer, presented the Board with an update on the Instructional Management System, Scantron. The advantages and purpose of Scantron were discussed; including the need for "real time" data and the need to know if every child has or has not acquired particular skills and objectives.
2005-06 Activity Bus Fee Increase
The Board voted to approve an increase to the 2005-06 activity bus mileage fee from $0.9586 to $1.2086 to generate an activity bus replacement account.
2005-06 Budget Resolution
The Board passed the budget resolution which reflected: current projections for state, federal, child nutrition and After School Care Enrichment Services (ACES) funding, a county appropriation to the Local Current Expense Fund and appropriations to the Capital Outlay Fund.
