RECOGNITIONS
Guilford County Schools' Teacher of the Year and Finalists
The Board recognized the four Guilford County Schools' Teacher of the Year finalists as well as the Teacher of the Year winner, J. Todd Cayton of Guilford Middle. The four Teacher of the Year finalists recognized were: Franklin Christopher Goins from Dudley High, Kim Berg from Alamance Elementary, Susan Marshall from Kernodle Middle and Susan Toney from Erwin Montessori. The recognition included a special presentation from Harris Teeter Neighborhood Supermarkets, Inc. and Green Ford.
CONSENT AGENDA
The Board approved the following items on the consent agenda:
- Personnel Action Report
- Permanent Utility Easement Request at Archer Elementary
- Contracts for Additions and Renovations at Stokesdale Elementary
STAFF REPORTS
The 2004-05 Value Added Data
Dr. William Sanders, a research associate at SAS Institute, presented and reviewed with the Board the district's 2004-05 Value Added Data. Sanders concluded that the data is consistent with results from throughout the state and recommended that principals use the data for identifying the specific needs of individual students as well as identifying specific areas of training required for individual teachers.

Redistricting Plans
The Board continued its discussions regarding redistricting in 2006. A motion to abandon the mini-zone proposal around Andrews High School passed 7-1. In addition, the Board voted 5-3 to eliminate a map that would have shifted students between Andrews and Southwest.
BOARD DISCUSSIONS
First Reading - Policy JGCD, Administration of Medications to Students
Dr. Nancy Routh led the Board in a discussion of Policy JGCD, Administration of Medications to Students and the first reading passed unanimously. The information will be posted for 21 days for public input.
Second Reading - Policy JGHB, Students with Food Allergies
Dr. Nancy Routh led the Board in a discussion of Policy JGHB, Students with Food Allergies. The motion to adopt the policy passed unanimously.
