Construction of the new northwest area school, E.P. Pearce Elementary, has gone off without a hitch, and the school is rapidly nearing completion ahead of schedule. Furniture is scheduled to be delivered in May, and the school will be ready for students at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.

Currently, sidewalks are being poured outside the school, and canopies are going up. Inside the school, finishing touches like painting and lighting will wrap up the project.

According to Principal Leslie Dunn, the 743-student capacity school will open up great opportunities to students. “We’re very excited,” she said. “The school will provide lots of space and needed classrooms in the northwest area of the county. We look forward to being a true community school of the 21st century – one which boasts cutting-edge technology while catering to the needs of all children and their families. The vision of the school is to challenge each child to grow and maximize their potential both in and out of the classroom. We will teach the standard course of study and strive to tap into the talent of the whole child.”

The school, which features the latest in technology, will also play off of their mascot -the E.P. Pearce Patriots. Students at the school will study in-depth Guilford County history. Local history will help decorate all areas of the school–-even the hallways will be streets named after local historical figures. Dunn’s goal is to use the school as a vehicle that brings local history to life.

As final construction touches, off-site road improvements will occur, like a road widening to accommodate a left turn lane into the school.

Will your child attend Pearce Elementary? The first parent meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 9 at the Northwest High auditorium; 5240 Northwest School Road; Greensboro, NC 27409
