Construction Technology Special Features

Kate began her career in construction by working with a family friend. An honors student at Eastern, she enrolled in the Construction Technology and Drafting courses to gain additional knowledge in the area of her career interest. Here she learned to read blueprints, use CAD programs, and work towards the Wheels of Learning certifications. As a high school senior, Kate competed in the North Carolina Department of Labor Carpentry contest held at the State Fair in Raleigh. She was the only female to compete and did very well, winning several awards. Kate began her apprenticeship with Samet Corporation, starting out as a carpenter and moving into construction management. She is completing an AAS Degree from GTCC in Construction Management and is taking courses at A & T for her bachelors degree. Currently she works with Greensboro Paint Company.
