College Tech Prep Business Partnership

The Guilford County College Tech Prep (CTP) Consortium owes its’ success to the continued support of its’ business partners.  The CTP partnership has been instrumental in assisting Guilford County School’s (GCS) Career and Technical Education in aligning its’ curriculum and instructional labs to current industry standards.  This has allowed GCS to develop course sequences that articulate with post-secondary education, providing students the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school and prepare for nationally recognized industry certifications. 
 
The CTP business partners assist in the development of program standards and selection criteria for apprenticeships within their area and offer students the opportunity to participate in job shadowing and career exploration activities.  The partners participate in a variety of activities where they provide students with information about the multiple career opportunities within their field and the education and training needed to be successful in those careers.  They assist parents and students in making informed decisions about post-secondary education related to career goals.  

The first Guilford County College Tech Prep industry group, formed in 1995, and developed a partnership model that provides a structure for the development of industry specific CTP business partnerships.  Guilford County currently has business partnerships supporting College Tech Prep courses of study in the following areas:

Automotive Technology
Construction Technology
Culinary Arts and Hospitality
Early Childhood Education
Electrical Technology
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology
Information Technology
Medical Careers
Metals and Manufacturing Technology
