Parents Students Schools Role and Responsibility

The AL department is responsible for plan development, implementation, and monitoring. Its mission to facilitate and monitor services for eligible students in/through a variety of educational settings such as the general education classroom, pull out resource services, consultation, and advanced coursework and enrichment. The Advanced Learning Department is committed to the belief that gifted students require guidance in discovering, realizing and developing their talents.
Students with outstanding abilities come from all ethnic, geographic and socio-economic groups. Academically or intellectually gifted students perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience and environment.  They exhibit high performance capability in intellectual areas and/or specific academic fields.  These students require differentiated educational services both in and apart from that which is provided in the general education program.

Using this definition of giftedness, school personnel have the responsibility and privilege of recognizing and nurturing the gifted characteristics in each student in a consistent manner from the time a student enters school. The Advanced Learning program requires a strong partnership between the school system and community. (2007-2010 AL Plan, page 5)
