Volunteer of the Month (September 2009)

American Express Recognizes Grimsley High Volunteer
No student or family is left behind at Grimsley High – Valerie Stern makes sure of that. She embodies the school’s motto of “expect and demonstrate excellence every day,” then she takes it to another level. Whether she’s fundraising, advocating for students and families, serving on community boards as a Grimsley representative or simply being a friendly face, this volunteer stops at nothing for the Whirlie family.
Nominated for the recognition by Principal Anna Brady, Stern has helped secure new technology, SPICE grants and other sources of funding to help the school continue to achieve success. Brady doesn’t know where she’d be without this second-year president of the Grimsley Parent Teacher Association. “She’s simply amazing,” Brady said.
