Media Specialists Recognized

Karen Lloyd, media specialist at Ferndale Middle School, was awarded the Annie Ray Raiffey Outstanding Middle School Educator Award by the Guilford County Council of PTA’s.  Nominees for this award and the Silas Abraham Peeler Outstanding Elementary School Educator Award are nominated by their school’s PTA in recognition of how they as teachers support the school’s PTA.

Three additional media specialists were nominated for these awards.  They are:  Mary Ellen Shiflett, Northwest Middle; Linda Comerford, Joyner Elementary; Tricia Goodman, Sternberger Elementary. 

Congratulations to these outstanding educators! 


Media Specialist Awarded Grant

Lou Sua, media specialist at Peck Elementary, has been awarded a Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries Grant for $5500.  The grant will be used to build a collection of leveled readers for kindergarten and 1st grade.  It will also support the low level readers in 2nd and 3rd.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded grants of up to $6000 to 158 school libraries for 2009. The purpose of the grants is to “expand, update and diversify their library book collections.” Information on the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries can be found at: http://www.laurabushfoundation.org/
