Hourly Rates for Events 

Inquiry. Why is it that we do not pay custodians the $20.00 per hour the district charged organizations for services rendered in support of events? 

Response. Please remember, as you secure custodians to handle after school or weekend events for groups or agencies that are using your building, the custodians will be paid at their regular rate of pay and for overtime if appropriate. If you would look at the Fee definition and Fee Schedule of the Application for Community Use of School Facility (form AS-1), you will see fees for use of the facility and/or school personnel. Though there is a price of $20 per hour for custodian/cafeteria personnel this does not mean that personnel will be paid that amount. These fees are the rates that the using organization is charged for the facility and the support necessary for their activity. The charge has nothing to do with the rate our employees will be paid. Keep in mind, in addition to paying our employees; we must also pay the cost of employee’s benefits, electricity, water, equipment, etc.

Please help us to eliminate this misunderstanding by explaining to your staff that they will be paid at their regular salary rate and any overtime when they agree to work during an event sponsored by an outside agency or organization at the school site.
