This has been an incredibly exciting month for us in the guidance department. We began with the CogAt testing of our 3rd grade students. The following week we had the entire school come to the puppet theater! This week we have iMom on Thursday morning, October 20th, and the Festival of Cultures that evening! Next week will feature our celebration of Red Ribbon Week where we are "Linked Together Against Drugs!".
The puppet theater was a wonderful way to review the lessons they had already been taught in their classroom guidance lessons. They enjoyed skits that reinforced themes of Responsibility, excluding others, and point of view. In addition, they reviewed the concept of the concept of the Three Focuses (Eye Focus, Body Focus, and Mind Focus). We celebrated the children with lively songs that taught them to never G-I-V-E U-P and to keep their H-E-A-D U-P. And no puppet theater would be complete without the Magic Show that demonstrates that there is a little magic in all of us. We hope you can join us for the iMom event and the Festival of Cultures! Thank you for sharing your children with us! Ms. Guy and Mrs. Adamson |
The first day of September marks the second month of school for us at Oak Hill Elementary. We have been working hard in our classroom guidance lessons to provide fun and education ways for students to learn more about becoming a family here at Oak Hill. We talked about the words "include" and "exclude" as well as "predict" with our students all being wonderful predictors of what they were going to do each lesson.
It has been an exciting time learning new names and faces, and it hardly feels like it has been a month already. I am personally so grateful for the students, staff, and parents all making me feel so welcome here during my internship. I truly feel a part of this wonderful family! |
Oak Hill Elementary is a great place to work. The students are lovable, friendly and eager to learn. My biggest challenges this year: very early mornings and challenging cultural names. I love working with an awesome staff and supportive administration. |
