Celebrating Excellence in Education Award... Sponsored by Action Greensboro, this award recognizes 15 schools in Guilford County that have demonstrated the greatest academic improvement during the past year. Nine elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools are recognized each year to celebrate their "Commitment to Excellence" goals: raising student performance, closing the achievement gap, promoting excellence in education and enhancing teacher quality.
In the fall of 2006, Parkview A+ Magnet was the recipient of this award. Our students in grades 3-5, demonstrated tremendous growth in their reading scores based on the state and federal accountability standards. In addition to a beautiful banner, our school received an $8,000 check. Parkview's Leadership Team elected to spend the majority of the money to purchase new math manipulative kits for each classroom. In addition, the Advanced Learners program, Arts specialists, Physical Education teacher were also given a fair share of the award to purchase classroom materials |

Signature School of the Piedmont Triad Award... During the 2005-2006 school year, Parkview was recognized as a "Signature School" for academic growth. The Piedmont Triad Education Consortium is a group of 15 school districts and 17 higher education agencies. Each year the"Signature School of the Piedmont Triad" award is given to schools that have demonstrated significant improvement during the previous year. The award highlights each school's efforts to boost student achievement and improve the overall learning environment.
Many initiatives were put into place to assist Parkview students in achieving their learning goals. Some of the programs incorporated include: A+ multiple-intelligence initiative through arts integration, strong Accelerated Reader and Success Maker programs, "Read to Feed" sevice-learning project, peer tutoring, 24 Challenge Math team, Odyssey of the Mind team, DOTS (a Connect Guilford project), Responsible Discipline Program, Win-Win Training, CARE, and a strong character education program-RRCH.
In addition, Parkview also built solid partnerships with a Professional Development Team from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, volunteer/mentoring assistance with High Point University, High Point Bank and Trust, First United Methodist Church, Communities in Schools, High Point Arts Council, BOTSO, Jump Start, and the High Point Foster Grandparent program. |
