Petition for Diploma


Formerstudents who earned certificates from Guilford County Schools (GCS) cannow receive a diploma due to a change in state law. Students who metall state and local graduation requirements except for passing theComputer Skills Test or Competency Test in Reading and Math canpetition the district for a diploma.

In accordance with state legislation, the tests were eliminated and areno longer required for graduation. Current students who have not passedthe tests will be eligible to receive a diploma if they meet all otherrequirements.

*The Computer Skills requirement started with the graduating class of 2001.
*The Reading and Math competency requirement started with the graduating class of 1981. 
*If a student is deceased, his/her parents, guardians, or next of kin can petition the LEA for the diploma.
*Petitions for diplomas will be accepted during a five year window through July 1, 2014.

PreviousGCS graduates who received a certificate between the years of 2001 -2009 should contact their school to petition for a diploma.  PreviousGCS graduates who received a certificate prior to 2001 should contactSamara Johnson, supervisor of high school counseling, at 336-370-2332.
