Teacher of the Year

Jean Goss, teacher at Jamestown Middle received the district's highest honors at the 10th annual Celebrating Excellence in Education event at Northern High on Monday. The event is sponsored by Businesses for Excellence in Education.

Goss has been a teacher at Jamestown Middle since 2005 and currently teaches 115 students in four core classes.

"Being a great teacher is all about connection," said Goss. "Children can, and will, learn from anyone who will take the time to know them, understand their interests, recognize how the content connects and focus on their needs."

Other winners in the Teacher of the Year category included Triangle Lake Montessori teacher Kimberly James, the Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Northwest High teacher Greg Shue, the High School Teacher of the Year. Both teachers received $500. Ideana Glenn from High School Ahead Academy and Kathryn Pritchard from Erwin Montessori were the remaining finalists and received $300 each.
