Worrell spent more than 20 years with GCS before joining Rockingham County Schools. She was the principal of Page High from 2000-03 and 2004-07. At Page High, Worrell designed and developed an International Baccalaureate program and strengthened the advanced placement and cultural arts programs. She also spent five years each as principal of Mendenhall Middle and Bluford Elementary. She was named North Carolina Association of Educators Administrator of the Year while serving at Mendenhall Middle. While at Bluford, Worrell implemented a successful magnet school program and helped the school achieve the highest math scores in the district. Before her administrative experience, Worrell served as a substance abuse lead teacher and designed and implemented the first DARE program in the district. Worrell began her public education career teaching science at Randolph Junior High. She continued teaching science at Lincoln Middle School (now The Academy at Lincoln) in Greensboro and was named the Lincoln Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1986, her first of many honors. In 2003, she was named Principal of the Year. A native of Guilford County, Worrell attended Rankin and Brightwood elementary schools, Northeast Middle and Northeast High. She earned a bachelor’s degree in middle school science education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and returned to her alma mater for a doctorate of education. She also holds a master’s degree in human development and learning from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. |
Dr. Terry W. Worrell leads the Central Region of Guilford County Schools as regional superintendent. She returned to GCS in April 2009 after serving as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Rockingham County Schools.
