Partnership Activities

Suggestions for partner activities

A successful partnership is a two-way street. Both parties should benefit from activities. Here are some suggested ways your organization can assist a school:

  • TWO Million Books initiative – donate books, e-readers or be a Reading Buddy
  • Character development – help students understand and model good character traits
  • Backpack Meals Program – help provide food for the weekend for selected students
  • Mentorship
  • Lunch Buddies – spend your lunch hour one day a week with a student
  • Homework assistance
  • Story telling or expressive reading
  • Donations of supplies and materials
  • Fund drives or grant writing
  • Underwriting for school programs or guest speakers
  • Clothes closet
  • After-school activities
  • Assistance with student incentives or awards program

And here are ways the school can return the favor:

  • Chorus or musical group performance at your location
  • Artwork for hallways or meeting rooms
  • Speakers for group meetings
  • Help with service projects

 Virtual Volunteers

Members of your organization may not have the time to volunteer during school hours, but a school can still put their talents to work by providing projects they can work on from home.

  • Edit a newsletter, design a flyer or update a web page.
  • Working volunteers with artistic talents can provide curriculum enrichment before school or in an after-school program.
  • Volunteers who speak or read a language other than English can serve as an interpreter for parents at school events or help translate materials for use by parents.
  • Seek donations for student incentives or school-sponsored events.
  • Help write volunteer recruitment materials.
  • Advocate for volunteer time off with employers.
