GCS Employees Give Back

Every day, in each of our 122 schools, we see the influence United Way has on our community. Perhaps it’s the struggling student who finds a permanent, loving home through Children’s Home Society. Or the teacher who’s able to better focus on her job, knowing that her elderly parent is in good hands at the Adult Center for Enrichment. Or even the classroom service-learning project that supports the American Red Cross and its work with disaster relief. The impact of United Way is all around us.

GCS will kick off its 2011 United Way campaign on Monday, Oct. 10, and again we strive to reach our goal of $350,000. In a time when money is tight and resources are scarce, that may seem ambitious, but the employees of Guilford County Schools have shown time and again that they are up to the challenge. The needs of our community are just as great, if not greater than ever before.

Our theme this year is “Building on What’s Working,” and we know that United Way is working in countless ways to improve the lives of our children, our employees and our community. If you have been helped by United Way, please share your story by writing to goodnews@gcsnc.com. And please consider donating through the e-pledge or pledge cards that will be available next week. Our campaign will close on Nov. 30.

By building on what’s working, we can build a better future for our community.
