13th Annual NC AHEC Future Leaders in Healthcare Conference

 

 

CONFERENCE THEME: 

“Your Future Health Career: Getting to the Finish Line”

 

AHEC is inviting highly motivated high school students with a strong interest in a health career to attend the 2012 NC AHEC Future Leaders in Healthcare Conference hosted by the North Carolina AHEC Program.

 

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:

 

Dates/Location: June 1-3, 2012  – University of Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina

  Criteria:   High school students that have a demonstrated interest in health careers.

  Cost:    $60.00 program fee; $35 for students on free or reduced lunch. Fees include

transportation, lodging, meals and conference.

 

This is a three-day conference for North Carolina high school students that have a demonstrated interest in healthcare as a future career.  Through educational workshops & discussions, the Conference provides students with an extraordinary opportunity to be exposed to college life, higher learning opportunities, decision making skills, college resources and tools for personal growth. The greatest emphasis will be placed on addressing cutting edge and pressing healthcare issues.  

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

· One written recommendation from school counselor or educator

· A personal statement of 100 words or less about 1) why the student is interested in a health career and 2) why the student should be selected to attend this conference.

· Demonstrated interest in a health career.

· Preference is given to students that have participated in previous Greensboro AHEC health career programming. 

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application deadline is April 30, 2012. All submissions should be mailed to Greensboro AHEC Health Careers and Workforce Diversity, 1200 North Elm Street, Greensboro NC  Students are encouraged to make their submissions as soon as possible as only 24 students will be selected. Notification of selections will be mailed on or before May 4, 2012.

 

 A request for an excused absence from school for this educational experience is the responsibility of the student’s parent or legal guardian.

FAMILY FUN DAY AT CAMP WEAVER

 

On Saturday, May 19, Guilford Parent Academy is hosting Family Fun Day at Camp Weaver from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This will be a fun event with FREE canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, outdoor games, wholesome food, giveaways and more. It’s open to all parents, students and families across GCS, including staff and their families. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
