TDAP Reminder for the 2013-14 School Year
Parents, please note that your rising sixth-grader is required to have an updated Tdap vaccination. It's one of the important things you'll need to check off the list before your child starts middle school this fall.
Tdap is available at your family doctor’s office or by appointment at the Guilford County Department of Public Health offices. Call 336-641-3245 to schedule an appointment. Offices are located at 1100 E. Wendover Ave., Greensboro and 501 E. Green Drive, High Point.
Do you have a rising sixth-grader? If so, your child is required to get an updated Tdap vaccine to attend middle school in the fall. Tdap protects children from three serious diseases – tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). All three are potentially life threatening.
State law requires the booster shot for all sixth-graders if five or more years have passed since their last dose. In North Carolina, students are required by law to provide immunization records for certain diseases.
Sixth-graders must show proof of receiving the Tdap vaccine within 30 calendar days of the start of school or they will be suspended. Appointment cards will not be accepted. If your child’s immunization record shows that they have had a Tdap, DTap, Td or DTP since July 2008, a booster is not required. However, you must provide the school with an updated immunization record.
The Tdap vaccine is available at your family health care provider. It is also available at the Guilford County Department of Public Health. Call 641-3245 to schedule an appointment. Please bring your child’s immunization record with you to the appointment.
