Guilford County Schools wants to make sure all our students are receiving the best education possible. In order to evaluate this, most students take exams at the end of the school year.
This year, all middle school students will take the traditional End-of-Grade (EOG) tests in reading and math. Eighth-graders will also take a science EOG.
-
Our science EOGs, 8th grade only, will start May 17th
-
Our math/reading EOGs will take place the week of May 29th
-
Tests include multiple-choice and written responses.
-
They will not count toward a student's final grade, but students will be scored at a Level 1, 2, 3 or 4.
-
Students in eighth grade who take Algebra I will take an End-of-Course exam on June 5, 2013.
This year, for the first time, some students will also take Common Exams.
Common Exams were previously called Measures of Student Learning, or MSLs, and measure a student's knowledge in courses that are not covered by EOGs.
The state will also use these exams to help determine how well our teachers are doing. Teachers will be evaluated in one of the Common Exam areas, depending on scheduling. This means students may take a Common Exam in science, social studies, or both.
-
Our Common Exams will be given on (May 1st -3rd, 2013).
-
The tests are 90 minutes long and include multiple-choice and written responses.
In middle school, the Common Exams will count as one test toward a student's final grade in the class. The scores will also be used by the state to help measure a teacher's effectiveness, so it is very important that all students do their best.
