In response to input received from the community, Guilford County Schools invites the public to provide feedback on the naming of the auxiliary gymnasium at Ragsdale High. The Guilford County Board of Education voted Thursday to open a public comment period for the name Mike Raybon Gymnasium.

The nomination, submitted on behalf of the Ragsdale Athletic Booster Club and Friends, proposes the name in honor of former teacher, coach, athletic director and assistant principal Mike Raybon. Raybon served Ragsdale and Southwest High from 1965 to 2008. He started the wrestling program at Ragsdale and was instrumental in the organization of hundreds of local and regional wrestling tournaments. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997. In the community, Raybon helped establish the Jamestown Youth League and is involved with the YMCA in Jamestown.

Comments on the naming of the gymnasium should be submitted by March 26 through e-mail to gcscomments@gcsnc.com or through U.S. mail to the District Relations Department, Guilford County Schools, 712 N. Eugene St., Greensboro, NC 27401.

More information about the nomination is available on the GCS Web site here.

The selection process for the naming of the gymnasium is in accordance with the board policy on the naming of facilities, FDCA-P. After the public comment period, the Guilford County Board of Education will vote on the name.
