GCS Students Win Scholastic Art Awards

Seven Guilford County Schools students received Scholastic Art Awards during the regional Scholastic art competition at Barton College. Their artwork was among about 2,000 entries from middle and high school students in the eastern half of the state. Four students from Mendenhall Middle and Northwest High received Gold Key awards, the highest recognition at the regional level, and will submit their artwork to the national competition. Three additional students from the schools received Silver Key awards.

Gold Key Awards

Mendenhall Middle: Klen Kpa - Painting "Black and White Portrait"

Northwest High: Yuxuan Chen - Paintings "Chatting" and "Cooking"; Jennifer Strom - Photo portfolio; and Kara Zimmerman - Photography "Fly Away"

Silver Key Awards

Mendenhall Middle: Ngia Y - Painting "The Unknown One" and Kristina Swofford - Drawing "Reality"
