ACES . . . helping children develop curiosity, creativity and character

Guilford County Schools invites parents to choose the district’s After-School Care Enrichment Services (ACES) program for quality, affordable and convenient after-school care. ACES is the place where students in kindergarten through fifth grade can pursue academic excellence and develop friendships with schoolmates in a child-centered environment.

ACES spaces are available for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years. The ACES brochure and enrollment application are available from the ACES Site Coordinator and office at your child’s elementary school.

Parents may come to the school week days during the school year between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to complete and submit their ACES enrollment appplication to the ACES site coordinator. Applications are also accepted in the school office during the summer break, at the school's beginning of the school year Open House, and during the school year. The $15 non-refundable enrollment fee is waived for students who have a DSS or other agency child care voucher.

ACES provides a structured balance of academic, enrichment and recreational after-school activities with a child-to-staff ratio of 20:1. The program expands children’s experiences, extends their learning and provides warm and caring support. Involvement in ACES helps build positive school-family relationships and strengthens our schools’ educational partnership with parents and students.

ACES is offered every day that school is in session for students. The program begins as soon as the school day ends and operates until 6:00 p.m. On some teacher workdays, designated as ACES All-Days, the program operates from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On All-Days students enjoy field trips to local places or participate in special on-site activities. On the district's Early Dismissal Days, ACES begins at the early dismissal time and operates until 6:00 p.m.

Nearly all elementary schools have an ACES program. Students attending an elementary school without a program may be able to attend a cluster-site ACES program at a near-by, designated elementary school. Information regarding cluster sites can be obtained from the students’ school or the district’s ACES Programs office.

ACES programs are licensed by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (NC-DCDEE) and can accept subsidy payments from agencies such as the Department of Social Services (DSS) and adoption services.

To receive more information on ACES, please contact the ACES Site Coordinator at your child's school, or Jean Reece, Director of ACES Programs, at 336.370.2321, Ext. 1.
