HB-720 School and Teacher Paperwork Reduction Act |
Changes in Payroll for 10-month Certified Employees This summer, the General Assembly approved House Bill 720, which eliminated the ability of school districts to prepay salaries. This requires Guilford County Schools (GCS) to only pay for the days worked during the pay period beginning July 1, 2012. This means 10-month certified employees will not receive a pre-paid check in August 2012 as they have the last few years.
GCS is working with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to determine exactly how this will impact the payroll calendar for 2012-13. We have contacted several other school districts and anticipate that the first pay date for 10-month employees for the 2012-13 school year will be in mid-September 2012, two weeks later than in recent years.
Employees can work with a State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) representative to change the funds distribution schedule for the summer of 2012. The SECU will work with employees to change the due dates of SECU loan payments from the end of the month to the middle of the month, which will be consistent with the new payroll schedule.
