![]() SYLLABUS Life skills Students are on the North Carolina Extended Standard Course of Study. For Extended English, students practice identifying words, exploring meanings, and making sentences. SRA Corrective Reading, Voyager, Dick & Jane series, and Boardmaker adapted materials may be used, depended upon individual needs. Students read selections and complete class composed paragraphs, identifying who, what, when, where, and why, as well as subject and main ideas. Extended Math involves solving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems with the use of manipulatives and calculators. The main focus is real-life application. Extended Science incorporates Physical, Life, and Earth Sciences, concentrating on the "Big Ideas" of science in the world around us. Extended Social Studies incorporates interpersonal relationships, concepts of family, community, and diversity. Students learn about various world cultures and ways of life, especially foods. Adaptive PE is focused upon developing cardiovascular and recreational skills. Vocational Skills are taught through work tasks in the classroom, as well as training at work sites. The Life Skills class participates in volunteering/vocational training at both on-campus and off-campus locations. Daily Living Skills are embedded throughout the curriculum. Individual Education Plan goals are also embedded thoughout the curriculum. |
