Employee of the Month (May 2006)

Sam’s Club Representative Steve Drewry presents Jan Mock of the GCS Print Shop a $50 gift card. Jan was named Guilford County Schools’ Employee of the Month for May 2006.
Printing materials for an entire school district is a daunting job. But GCS Print Shop Supervisor Jan Mock and his small staff consistently deliver, even with the tightest of time limits. For his efforts, tenacity and commitment to provide employees with the tools they need to help students succeed, Jan Mock was selected as Guilford County Schools Employee of the Month for May 2006.
“Tell me what you need and we’ll get it done.” Those are the words of this special employee, a 10-year veteran of GCS, who is responsible for providing mountains of printed materials for the district’s 112 schools, as well as all central and satellite offices. Despite the routine pressing needs and ever-changing deadlines of every single school and office, Jan displays a “can do” attitude that is an example for all of us to follow.
His generosity and “can do” attitude extends to his home life as well. In addition to raising their own five children, Jan and his wife have spent more than a decade sharing their home with a number of foster children who have become successful members of our community. In the past 10 years, Jan and his wife have cared for more than 20 foster children.
The Employee of the Month received a $50 gift card and a gift bag from Sam’s Club, which has partnered with GCS to support the employee recognition program. In addition, Mock will be recognized at the May 9, 2006 Board of Education meeting.
