Employee of the Month (December 2006)

Bobby Sarteh Guilford County School Announce Bobby Sarteh as Employee of the Month

Sometimes it seems hard to get through to kids—just imagine how tough it is when that child speaks a different language! As an ESOL liaison with Mendenhall Middle School, Bobby Sarteh faces that on a daily basis. A refugee himself of Liberia, Sarteh knows what it feels like to make the move to a new country. In an effort to help people of different backgrounds, he has learned Spanish and Vietnamese to make communication easier.

He makes home visits, tutors students after school and even takes children to medical appointments. Sarteh goes the extra mile to make sure that not just the students, but their families too, have food and clothes. Somehow, he even finds the time to coach the middle school soccer team. In a nomination letter, one of his colleagues says of him: “He is a man of outstanding character, dignity and manners. I am honored to nominate Bobby Sarteh.”

As Employee of the Month, Sarteh received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has partnered with GCS to support the employee recognition program. Sarteh’s photograph will hang at the district’s main offices as well as Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue in Greensboro.
