Buddy Program
The Lateral Entry Buddy Program matches up successful Lateral Entry Teachers will new Lateral Entry Teachers to create an additional support structure for new teachers. In addition to your District Level Induction and Success Coach, your School-Level Induction and Success Coordinator, and your Mentor, a Buddy Teacher can provide you with the perspective of an experienced lateral entry teacher.
How is a Lateral Entry Buddy different from other coaches or mentors?
District Level Induction and Success Coach: |
Provides periodic support and on-demand support to approximately 40 teachers across the district. You may see this person once or twice each month unless you request additional meetings. |
School-Level Induction and Success Coordinator: |
Coordinates induction services at your school site for all new teachers. This person is a faculty member at your school. You and other new teachers will meet with this person once a month to discuss a specific topic related to teaching. |
Mentor: |
Provides weekly support in your curriculum area. This person may or may not have another mentee. This person may or may not be at your same school depending upon your subject area and the availability of mentors. |
Lateral Entry Buddy: |
A Lateral Entry Buddy is a successful lateral entry teacher who has earned tenure in this school system. This person can be accessed via telephone, email, or in person at your request. They have a unique understanding of what you are going through in that they were once in your shoes. |

How do I become a Lateral Entry Buddy?
You must be a tenured teacher within the Guilford County School System. You must have entered the teaching profession as a Lateral Entry Teacher. You must be in good standing with regard to your performance evaluations. If you meet these criteria, contact Lateral Entry Specialist, Pamela Herndon, at 378-8823 x2, or at herndop@gcsnc.com.
