GCS Teacher Wins Marcellus E. Waddill Excellence in Teaching Award

A sixth grade teacher at Kernodle Middle is $20,000 richer due to her innovative teaching methods. Sally Smith is the recipient of the Marcellus E. Waddill Excellence in Teaching Award given to Wake Forest alumni who are making a difference in education. Smith uses games, interactive activities and demonstrations to teach concepts to her students and also makes home visits to parents to ensure academic success. Smith received the award in October, named for a retired Wake Forest University professor.

She will be recognized at the December 20 Board of Education meeting.
