Guilford County Students Selected to Attend Governor’s School

Twenty-four Guilford County Schools (GCS) students will spend their summer vacation preparing for their future. These artists, mathematicians, musicians and scientists of tomorrow will gain valuable insight by attending classes and lectures, where they will learn from their peers through discussions of the latest, most innovative topics and ideas.
        
These students will attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina, the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for academically gifted high school students. The six-week program begins June 15 and runs until July 26. The GCS students listed below will attend the 2008 Governor’s School:

The program offers 11 academic disciplines for students to explore. The areas of study include art, dance, foreign language, math, music and science. Students will study at one of the two campuses, Governor’s School West at Salem College in Winston-Salem or Governor’s School East at Meredith College in Raleigh.

The General Assembly of North Carolina funds the program; students attend free of charge. Each school district is allotted a certain number of students based on its 10- and 11-grade enrollments.
