Students at Weaver Academy Achieved Success with Their Painting Skills

On Friday, February 24, students of the visual arts department at Weaver Academy participated in the 30th Annual Theatre Art Galleries Student Show in High Point. The theme for the show was “Alla Prima Painting,” which stands for “painting in the moment.” The winners of the art show from Weaver Academy were, Sophia Gavgani, who won first place, Lindsay Golden, who won third place and Jennifer Chi, who received an honorable mention.

The exhibit will run until Thursday, April 13th. In addition, the Curator and Director of Theatre Art Galleries will make a studio visit to the school in April, where students will present work from their portfolios. This will give the students a ‘real world’ experience involving the development of exhibitions from the gallery’s perspective, and will emphasize the professional roles of both the artist and the curator. This show will open in the middle of May and run through the summer. Students are also preparing to show more work in the United Arts Council board room in the spring.
