Guilford County Students Race to Be the Fastest Kid
GCS and Nike Outdoor Nationals Hold Second Annual Fastest Kid Competition
Guilford County Schools, along with Nike Outdoor Nationals, found the fastest elementary school boy and girl, as well as the fastest middle school boy and girl at the second annual Fastest Kid competition at North Carolina A & T State University Friday.
Jermaine Hamilton from Mendenhall Middle was the quickest overall, with a remarkable time of 12.06 seconds. Breanna Alston from Southeast Middle was the fastest middle school girl, with a time of 13.08 seconds. Jefferson Elementary’s Reid Baxter was the speediest of the elementary boys with time of 13.59 seconds, while Brianna Haith was the quickest elementary girl with a 14.1 finish.
The event kicked off on Thursday with a clinic open to all students. Antonio Pettigrew, United States 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist in track and field, attended the clinic to demonstrate techniques and give the participants a few pointers for the final races on Friday. The clinic was followed by preliminaries.
At the finals, the winners of each division received a medal for their hard work. All participants received a free T-shirt.
