Characteristics of Our New Superintendent

On May 1, 2008, the Guilford County Board of Education approved the 12 characteristics below as qualities the new superintendent should possess. We invite and welcome your feedback. 

 

  1. Will inspire trust, has high levels of self-confidence and optimism, and models high standards of integrity and personal performance.
  2. Is able to build consensus and commitment among individuals and groups with emphasis on parental involvement.       
  3. Possess excellent people skills.
  4. Is strongly committed to a student-centered philosophy in all decisions.
  5. Has the ability to secure and promote positive student behavior conducive to student achievement/learning climate.
  6. Will listen to input, but can make a decision when necessary.
  7. Remains current on educational issues for application in the district when appropriate and has demonstrated the ability to enhance student performance through a well-rounded curriculum, especially in identifying and closing or narrowing the gaps in student achievement.
  8. Demonstrates effective communication skills to include speaking, listening and writing.
  9. Possesses the leadership skills required to respond to the challenges presented by an ethnically and culturally diverse community.
  10. Will commit to community visibility with high interest in a broad range of community groups and organizations.
  11. Has knowledge of and successful experience in sound fiscal practices and management of district resources, including appropriate participation of others in planning and decision-making.
  12. Is able to identify and select building and central office administrators, and to build and direct an effective administration team who is capable of advancing the district vision and committed to professional growth, and can delegate authority appropriately while maintaining accountability.
