Do families pay tuition to attend high school option programs?

No. There is no tuition for students whose parents live in Guilford County. Occasional costs that may occur during the year would be similar to those in any other school.

Applications from students whose domicile is outside Guilford County will not be considered.

Who is eligible to apply?

Each high school option has unique entrance criteria. Contact the individual high school option program coordinator or principal for their criteria.

How do you apply for enrollment?

Applications can be obtained from the individual high school program or by going to "Applications" on this site. The Student Assignment Office will not distribute applications for High School Options Schools and Programs.

All completed applications must be returned to the coordinator or principal of the appropriate high school option program. The address for mailing or delivering the application appears at the bottom of the form. No applications are accepted before the official application period. No advantage is given to applications based on when they are received within the official application period. Applications received after the deadline may be considered on a space available basis.

When is the application period?

The  2009-2010 application period for the high school options will be announced at a later date.

Where there are duplicate programs, for instance middle college, IB, or Arts can I apply for any school?

For IB, the high school attendance zone in which you live determines the IB program for which you are eligible to apply

For Weaver and Penn-Griffin Arts, the middle school attendance zone in which you live determines the high school arts program for which you are eligible to apply

For middle colleges, students from any attendance zone who meet proper age, grade or gender criteria can apply for any middle college program.

How are students selected for admission?

Acceptance into high school option programs is based on students meeting the criteria for the individual program and an interview process.

Notifications of acceptance/denial (along with transportation request forms when appropriate) will be sent from the Student Assignment Office beginning April 14, 2008.  For applications received after that date, notifications will be sent within two weeks of receipt of the application.

Is transportation provided for high school options?

GCS will make a reasonable effort to provide transportation for high school option students who are county residents.
