Two GCS Administrators Named to 40 Under Forty List

Lewis Ferebee and Brian Clarida were named to the Business Journal’s annual list

The Business Journal recognized two Guilford County Schools (GCS) administrators as top leaders in the Piedmont Triad on Friday. Lewis Ferebee, Enrichment Region superintendent, and Brian Clarida, principal of Sumner Elementary, were named to the newspaper’s annual 40 Under Forty list.

The two were recognized in a special February 27 edition of the Business Journal.

Ferebee graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1997 and began his career in education teaching at the elementary level for Newport News Public Schools in Virginia. He became an assistant principal in Granville County Schools before joining GCS in 2001. He has served as principal of Fairview Elementary and Hairston Middle. He also served as an instructional improvement officer, leading and managing a division of 13 schools.

Ferebee earned his master’s degree from The George Washington University. In 2009, he completed his Doctorate of Education in educational administration and supervision from East Carolina University.

Prior to joining GCS in 2006, Clarida served as principal of Lawsonville Avenue Elementary in Reidsville. He began his career as a middle school teacher in 1998.

Clarida received his bachelor’s degree in 1997 from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and went on to earn a Master of Science degree from the university. He earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro in 2002. In 2005, he earned his Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University.

Every year, the Business Journal honors 40 Triad men and women who are leaders in their respective organizations. Honorees, all of whom are between the age of 21 and 40, have shown significant career achievements in 2009 and had substantial community involvement outside their day-to-day job.
