Update on H1N1 Influenza
Contact: Haley Miller (336) 370-3200
Created:
Guilford County Schools is still working closely with the local and state health department to monitor the H1N1 flu outbreak. As of late yesterday, North Carolina is reporting seven confirmed cases and one probable case (Guilford County does not have any suspect, probable or confirmed cases).
At this time, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are not advising school/daycare closure for a suspected or confirmed case of H1N1. The CDC recommends for sick students and staff with flu-like symptoms to stay home for a minimum of seven days, and adults should continue to monitor children’s health (and their own) for flu-like symptoms.
Remember, good personal hygiene is the best way to prevent the flu. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, wash your hands frequently and cover any coughs/sneezes with a disposable tissue. If a tissue is not available, cough/sneeze into your elbow.
